Erectile dysfunction (ED) is the permanent inability to initiate and/or maintain an erection adequate for satisfactory sexual intercourse. ED has a high prevalence and incidence that increases with age. It is a multifactorial disorder, where physical, endocrine, metabolic, and psychogenic factors may play a role. Erectile dysfunction can be an early sign of more serious health problems, such as heart disease.
